What if I forget my phone?
You can configure multiple methods of authentication, including a voice call via landline to ensure you never lose access to your account. If you're not able to complete any of the MFA options, the IT Support Centre can grant you access to your account after we've verified your identity.
Does the App on my phone have the ability to spy on my photos, text messages, and other personal information?
Absolutely not. The Microsoft Authenticator app only has permission to send you push notifications and to access the camera when taking a picture of the QR code. It does not give Humber College or Microsoft access to any of the data on your device or the traffic that passes through it.
What if I don't have a mobile device?
"While a mobile device is the preferred method to work with MFA, non-phone options will be available." Please contact the IT Support Centre for more information.
If I use a different SIM card when traveling, will MFA still work?
This depends on the method used for MFA - The app-based method with Microsoft Authenticator uses data (mobile and/or Wi-Fi) so it will remain active. If your phone number changes for any reason, phone and SMS push will not function until updated numbers are entered.
My mobile device provided by Humber was lost or stolen. What should I do?
If your mobile device was issued to you by the College, please contact the IT Support Centre to let them know about the loss or theft of the device. Our team will work with you to determine how best to proceed with both the MFA options and the loss of the device.
Can I set up MFA and trust my device for a period of time?
Registering your device with Microsoft Authenticator will enable it to receive push notifications when your account is accessed. It is possible to automatically accept the notifications on a trusted device.
Will I need to complete the MFA after every login?
You will only be prompted when accessing from a new device or after an extended period of time.
